Stories in Every Note
Stories in Every Note began with a deeply personal moment that changed the way I think about music and connection.
Years ago, I visited a former piano teacher in the hospital during the final stages of her life. There was a piano in a nearby lounge, and I sat down to play for her. In that moment, music created a connection that words no longer could. It was the last time we were able to truly communicate before she passed away.
That experience stayed with me.
It made me reflect on all the spaces where people connect through art and culture — often quietly and outside of traditional stages or concert halls. I started thinking about hospitals, community centres, schools, festivals, churches, neighbourhood venues, living rooms, and late-night jam sessions. So many meaningful moments happen in these spaces, and music has a way of bringing people together within them.
Stories in Every Note grew out of a desire to capture some of that magic.
Through performances, conversations, collaborations, and community work, this project explores the many ways music connects people across generations, backgrounds, and experiences. It’s a space for storytelling, reflection, and celebrating the communities where culture is actively lived every day.
For me, this work is about more than performance. It’s about documenting the people, places, and moments where art creates connection, memory, healing, and belonging.
Whether I’m performing in a jazz club, working with young musicians, collaborating with artists, or sharing music in unexpected spaces, Stories in Every Note is an extension of that belief: that music can carry stories, strengthen community, and remind us of our shared humanity.
